ICE DAM videos and information page:

Ice dams are a serious problem in cold climates.  Until a few years ago there was almost nothing you could do to prevent ice dams, but now there is a product called Ice and Water Shield which EIC uses in all of it's markets.  This membrane material helps prevent against ice dams in valleys and on eves.  EIC still recommends that a homeowner maintenance their roof at least 2 times per winter in order to prevent excessive build up of ice and snow.  We shovel our drive/walkways and we change the oil in our cars, but rarely do we think to maintenance our roof...but, it is very important.   Many shingle and membrane manufacturers require simple maintenance of your roof in order to sustain the life of the product and maintain their manufacturer's warranty.

Below are a few videos which should help you visualize what an ice dam is and how to prevent one from occurring on your roof.
